Ontario has a relatively clean electricity grid with a range of diverse resources, including nuclear, hydro, and renewables. However, the system is in flux, with major repairs planned for the nuclear sector, new renewables and storage methods being added in Lanark County. As well, the province has plans to add additional natural gas plants which will result in higher emissions from electricity. There is opportunity to influence the development of Ontario’s electricity system.

As we wean ourselves off of burning fossil fuels it is important to modernize the electricity systems, connect it with places that need it the most, increase the amount of electricity generated from renewable sources, and store it. These non-emitting sources include hydro, wind, and solar.

Where will the electricity come from that we need to get us off fossil fuels and address the climate crisis?

In Spring and Fall 2024, Climate Network Lanark examined the big picture and launched two workshops to help residents electrify their homes.

At this time, there are no further activities planned, but we hope to see you again in the future!

Thank you to all who participated!
